Necessary signals indicating a scam
Here are the most necessary signals that a scammer usually uses in order to lure you:
Scammers try to win your trust.
Scammers always talk over the phone and try to gain your trust. They may suggest you call on the number they provide. Moreover, they impersonate a well-known business person, well-wisher, service provider, or anyone you trust. They pretend to be from an organization you know. Therefore, you listen to them carefully and trust what they say.
Trap you with unexpected prizes
Scammers always have their plan ready to trap you. For example, they may call and inform you that you have won a prize/lottery. In addition, they demand some money to clear or to transfer the amount. If they don't ask for money, they talk about your complete bank account details and fraud you by gaining OTP or confidential bank information.
Sometimes they threaten you.
Scammers pressurize you to be on the call until they disconnect. They might threaten to arrest you. In addition, they may give you a fake check and take some money in return.
How to avoid a scam
Here are some steps or tips you can follow to avoid scams:
Block all unwanted calls and messages: Unwanted calls and messages are sent to trap you, and you can avoid them by blocking them.
Never share your confidential information: Scammers win your trust and ask for your personal or account details. They may pretend to be from a bank, a school, and any government official.
Identify the suspicious conversation or activity they ask to do: Any businessman that pressurizes you to make an immediate decision might be a scammer. Avoid talking to such businesses.
Avoid paying through a gift card or money transfer service: Scammers always insist you pay by using a gift card or money transfer service.
Avoid clicking on malicious links: Some links take you to other websites and ask for your personal information. Check for the link; a legitimate website uses HTTPS and not HTTP. But this is not enough to find a malicious link. You should stay away from unknown links.
Huge discount or too attractive pricing: Always mind the pricing and research the pricing of a product if a website is offering a vast/unexpected discount. Don't buy from any unknown websites without researching.
